Out & About: Much To Do About Tooting

London is a pretty exciting place to be this summer – from the Olympics to Wimbledon, everyone can feel the buzz in the air. Vanessa Koloko, member of the INTO St. George’s University of London team, tells us what’s happening near the Tooting-based centre…

Vanessa says: There are some big events taking place near INTO St. George’s over the summer. Wimbledon, the world’s most famous tennis tournament, is happening right now and ends on 8 July.  On 6 July, a free community dance event, ‘C’mon and Dance’ will take place on Tooting Bec Common as part of Big Dance 2012. Everyone’s welcome to join in! On 23 July, the Olympic Torch Relay will pass through our area followed by a free Olympic celebration on Tooting Bec Common from 5pm. This will include entertainment, music and a chance to see the flame.

If the weather stays dry then why not pop down to Tooting Bec Lido? It’s one of the UK’s oldest open-air pools and featured in the Brad Pitt movie Snatch. Or, if you’re in the mood for exploring, then book a St. George’s campus tour - we think it’s the perfect setting for a stroll.

Whichever part of the UK you’re studying in, it’s definitely worth paying a visit to London (and St. George’s) this summer – we hope to see you soon!
